Majestic and friendly Tesoro came to us as an owner surrender along with his friend, Natache. He needed to add a quite a bit of weight before we could evaluate him on basic groundwork skills.
This older gelding is more energetic than most of our younger horses! Standing at almost 16 hands, he’s a find for anyone looking for a larger, well-structured horse. Tesoro is easy to catch and often approaches you first, though you must work to maintain that engagement. His curiosity about everything happening around him competes with your efforts to maintain his ear. When something scares him, his instinct tends to be to get too close to you. On the ground, he is very responsive to pressure, so it often only takes a small cue to get him to move.
Tesoro leads well, loads in a trailer, and picks up his feet without any issues, especially when there are few distractions. When introduced to new obstacles he sometimes is afraid but is willing to try. In the round pen, he’s very responsive when when circling and lunging on a lead line though we continue to work on slowing him down. We’ve successfully driven him in a saddle and bit and will soon assess him under saddle.
