"Takini" is the Lakota word for survivor, a fitting description for this gorgeous blue-eyed gelding who was rescued from an auction pen at five months old. He’s been well loved his entire life. His former owner has struggled with health issues recently and wanted to secure a bright future for both Takini and his partner, Luna, by surrendering them to us.
Takini has proven to be a very social and smart horse who enjoys spending time with his handler. At times a bit stubborn, he is more than willing to cooperate once he understands what you’re asking for. Takini is easy to catch and halter and is great with lunging and the in-hand obstacle course, including loading in the trailer. Because he’s so curious, calm, strong and difficult to spook, we think he’d make a great trail horse. Our trainers are still assessing him under saddle. He’s quite rusty with verbal and leg queues and gets nervous and tight when asked to go into a lope. We’ll continue to assess him and update his status soon.
