Colton Smyth

RANCH FOREMAN

Colton Smyth is a New Mexico native son, born and raised in the East Mountains where he is a professional horse trainer. Colton grew up on the back of a horse, enjoying his first ride at three days old. He began training horses at age 14. Colton’s experience includes training hunter/jumpers, cutting/sorting, dressage, and western. He completed an apprenticeship with Larry Smyth, his father and developed a passion for wild mustangs, taking great care and pride in raising, training and rehoming them.

Colton believes his role as a ranch trainer is to develop a bond and a partnership between the horse and human. Utilizing a natural horsemanship philosophy, Colton also teaches ranch volunteers to develop their own horse handling leadership, knowledge, and skills as they prepare all ranch horses for adoption.
